Purpose of Job: In collaboration with the Department Manager, the Assistant Department Manager ensures that quality professional and nonprofessional services are provided to patients at the level the patient requires; envisions the future for the department; produces excellence; leads by influence; and develops associates within the department. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Assists in ensuring compliance with Hospital, State, and Federal Regulations in reference to patient care activities and physical environment.Assists in communicating shared vision, mission, and values within department, which motivates others to achieve strategic goals.Creates a learning environment that is open and respectful and promotes the sharing of expertise to promote the benefits of health outcomes.Assists in development and achievement of departmental budgets and goals.Participates in the recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel.Assists in ensuring appropriate staffing and scheduling guidelines are met.Coordinates, with the direction of the Department Manager, new-associate orientation, education, credentialing and continued professional development of associates.Supports and encourages shared-accountability for professional practice.Monitors Caregiver performance, providing coaching, recognition, counseling and avenues for improvement as needed.Advocate for a work environment that minimizes work-related illness and injury.Promotes positive customer relations with physicians, patients, families, visitors and associates. Assists with follow-up on concerns and provides feedback.Utilizes objective measurement tools to evaluate performance and intervenes appropriately.
